Frequently Asked Questions

How does the math gate actually work?

You pick the apps you want to guard, such as Instagram or TikTok, and the times of day you want them guarded. During those windows, opening a guarded app brings up the math gate instead of the app. Complete one challenge, a math duel against a bot rival, a mini sudoku, a cross math puzzle, a math maze, or a KenKen puzzle, and the app opens. Finishing a challenge always unlocks. This works the same way on Android and iOS; only the underlying lock technology differs.

Why does MathLock need Accessibility permission? (Android)

On Android, Accessibility is the only way an app can know which app you just opened. MathLock uses this single signal, the package name of the foreground app, and nothing else. We do not read screen content, type for you, or use Accessibility for any other purpose. The check runs entirely on your device.

Why does MathLock need Screen Time access? (iOS)

On iOS, MathLock uses Apple's Screen Time (Family Controls) framework to shield the apps you choose. This is Apple's official, privacy-preserving way for an app to lock other apps. You pick the apps with Apple's own private picker, so MathLock never receives the list of apps installed on your device, only an opaque selection token it cannot read. Everything runs on your device, with no account.

Does MathLock send my data anywhere?

No. The App is account-free and runs entirely on your device. Your guarded apps selection, schedule, streak, XP, and game progress live only in encrypted local storage. There is no analytics SDK. The only external service is RevenueCat, which receives an anonymous identifier and your Play Store or App Store receipt to verify your purchase. See our Privacy Policy for full detail.

My gate isn't appearing at lock time. What should I check? (Android)

Three things to verify: (1) Accessibility is enabled for MathLock in Android Settings, (2) "Display over other apps" is allowed, and (3) "Alarms & reminders" is granted so we can schedule exact-time alarms. Also confirm MathLock is excluded from battery optimization. Some manufacturers (Xiaomi, OPPO, Vivo, Realme) aggressively kill background apps.

My shield isn't appearing at lock time. What should I check? (iOS)

Check that (1) Screen Time access is granted to MathLock in Settings → Screen Time, (2) you have at least one app or category selected in MathLock, and (3) a lock time covers the current moment. Allow notifications so the shield's "Solve" button can hand you the challenge. The shield applies the next time you open a selected app or bring it to the foreground; if you ever missed a window, just open MathLock once and it reconciles the lock.

The math is too hard (or too easy). Can I change it?

MathLock adapts to you automatically. Start at Chill, Standard or Genius, and win or lose, each game quietly adjusts to your level. The mini sudoku, cross math, math maze and KenKen puzzles are calmer alternatives to the timed duel.

What happens to my streak if I miss a day?

Streak freezes protect you. If you have a freeze available, a missed day uses the freeze instead of resetting your streak. You earn freezes as you play, so a single busy day will not wipe out weeks of momentum.

How does the free trial work?

The weekly subscription starts with a 7 day free trial. You get full access for the week, and you can cancel any time during the trial without being charged, through Google Play → Subscriptions on Android or Settings → your name → Subscriptions on iOS. If you do not cancel, the weekly subscription begins when the trial ends. If you would rather skip subscriptions entirely, the lifetime unlock is a one-time purchase.

Can I cancel my subscription?

Yes. On Android, cancel through Google Play → Subscriptions → MathLock. On iOS, cancel through Settings → your name → Subscriptions → MathLock. After cancellation, you keep access until the end of your current billing period. The lifetime unlock is a one-time purchase and does not auto-renew.

I bought the lifetime unlock but it isn't recognized on my new phone.

Sign in with the same store account you used to purchase, the same Google account on Android or the same Apple ID on iOS, install MathLock, and tap "Restore purchases" on the paywall. Your entitlement is tied to your store account, not to a specific device.

How do I delete all my data?

All MathLock data is stored locally on your device. Uninstall the app and everything, your guarded apps selection, schedule, streak, XP, and preferences, is removed with it. There is no account or server-side data to delete.
