Frequently Asked Questions

How does the salah lock actually work?

You pick the apps you want to lock and the times of day you want them locked — typically the five daily prayers (Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha). At each scheduled time, Deen Gate paints an emerald overlay whenever you open one of those apps. The overlay only goes away once you complete a short reflection — one Quran ayah or dua and a brief moment of dhikr.

Why does Deen Gate need Accessibility permission?

Accessibility is the only way Android lets an app know which app you just opened. Deen Gate uses this single signal — the package name of the foreground app — and nothing else. We do not read screen content, type for you, or use Accessibility for any other purpose. The check runs entirely on your device.

Does Deen Gate send my data anywhere?

No. The App is account-free and runs entirely on your device. Your name, schedule, locked apps list, streak, and salah history live only in encrypted local storage. The only external service we use is RevenueCat, which receives an anonymous identifier and your Play Store receipt to verify your purchase. See our Privacy Policy for full detail.

My lock isn't firing on time. What should I check?

Three things to verify: (1) Accessibility is enabled for Deen Gate in Android Settings, (2) "Display over other apps" is allowed, and (3) "Alarms & reminders" is granted so we can schedule exact-time alarms. Also confirm Deen Gate is excluded from battery optimization on your device — some manufacturers (Xiaomi, OPPO, Vivo, Realme) aggressively kill background apps.

Are the salah times calculated automatically from my location?

Yes, if you grant the approximate location permission. Deen Gate only ever asks for coarse location (city-level), not precise GPS — that's all that's needed to compute salah times accurately. Your approximate coordinates are read once when you enable location-based times, stored locally on your device, and used each day to recompute your five daily salah times (Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha) using standard astronomical formulas. We do not poll your location in the background, and the coordinates never leave your device.

If you move cities, open Settings and tap "Refresh salah times from location" to update the stored coordinates. If you deny the permission, the App falls back to manual entry: you set each salah time yourself during onboarding and can edit them any time in Settings. We still recommend cross-checking against your local masjid timetable.

I denied location earlier — how do I switch to automatic salah times?

Open Android Settings → Apps → Deen Gate → Permissions → Location and allow the approximate (coarse) option, then re-open Deen Gate and use the "Refresh salah times from location" option in Settings. Your existing schedule will be replaced with the computed one. You can switch back to manual entry any time.

Can I cancel my subscription?

Yes. Cancel any time through Google Play → Subscriptions → Deen Gate. After cancellation, you will continue to have access until the end of your current billing period. The lifetime unlock is a one-time purchase and does not auto-renew.

I bought the lifetime unlock but it isn't recognized on my new phone.

Sign in to the same Google Play account you used to purchase, install Deen Gate, and tap "Restore purchases" on the paywall. Your entitlement is tied to your Play account, not to a specific device.

How do I delete all my data?

All Deen Gate data is stored locally on your device. Uninstall the app and everything — your schedule, streak, salah history, and preferences — is removed with it. There is no account or server-side data to delete.
